My colleague Katie, who specializes in Orthopedic Surgery Specialties, and I were given the fun challenge of matching a physician couple. Both candidates were looking for subspecialized jobs within their respective specialties, rather than generally-focused positions, so that added another layer of complexity in addition to their geographic preferences.
Katie is incredible to work with and makes things so easy. We each have strong relationships with different employers so we can always play to our strengths and use each other’s connections to source opportunities. Another factor that eased the process was the candidates’ high level of responsiveness and thoughtful feedback, which allowed us to maintain momentum.
Ultimately, we found a great long-term fit for both of them. They are in their home state and will be practicing in a structure that fits exactly what they were searching for. Finding jobs for a physician couple isn’t always simple, but it’s worth it when they find jobs in the same city close to home where they can serve their home communities.
Physician couples are prevalent, so me and my colleagues must work together and stay on the same page. Communication is key: From the candidates, from the employers, and from the great SJA team working on the search. Making sure everyone is on the same page is the key to it all and we can’t wait to match our next physician couple.
